Joffers (Jonathan) McCormack

I’ve always said that you can tell someone about a safari or an expedition, but it’s the indescribable feeling of adventure, anticipation, and being fully immersed in nature that truly makes the experience. Sharing the wonders of our natural environment is what I live for.

Meerkats have exceptional eyesight, here, this individual is standing guard, vigilantly scanning for predators to protect the rest of the clan.

Leopards are often believed to spend most of their time in trees, but they primarily rest, hunt, and mark territory on the ground.

Chimpanzees share a large portion of their DNA with humans, making them one of our closest living relatives, known for their intelligence, tool use, and complex social behavior.

Witnessing the great migration is an overwhelming sensory experience, where the chaos and interactions create a truly breathtaking spectacle.

A Temminck's Ground Pangolin, one of the world's most trafficked animals, exploited for traditional medicine, it is crucial we do what we can to save this iconic species.

Mountain gorillas are endangered primates native to Africa. They live in groups led by a dominant silverback male and thrive at high altitudes.

Expedition Leader Joffers (Jonathan) McCormack

From a young age and having grown up on a game reserve in Zimbabwe, Joffers developed a passion for wildlife and conservation. After completing his education, he knew his true calling was to educate others about the environment and thereby help protect it. Joffers began his career at Tswalu in the Kalahari, where he quickly distinguished himself as a dedicated and driven student. Marco Tonoli, his head guide (now partner and leader at Apex Expeditions), was impressed by his commitment and performance and invited him to stay on as a guide. This early mentorship paved the way for a career in the safari industry. He later moved to other distinguished safari properties where he became the youngest to achieve the prestigious walking trails guide qualification at the time. Joffers went on to guide guests throughout Southern Africa’s iconic wilderness areas, specializing in fauna, flora, geology, and mammal behavior. He then transitioned into private guiding, broadening his expertise across Africa, from the Okavango Delta to East Africa’s vast savannahs and rich forests. Outside of guiding, Joffers has spearheaded numerous conservation initiatives, including helicopter anti-poaching patrols, de-snaring operations, and supporting research projects. He is a staunch advocate for safeguarding the wildlife we share the planet with. Joffers can genuinely say he has never “worked” a day in his life, as his passion for conservation and guiding continues to inspire and drive his journey.

Joffers is an expert and highly proficient in accommodating his guests! He has a great knowledge of safari and local cultures. An incredible asset, an articulate and communitive guide, he is personable with a great sense of humor!
